Grooming tips
Q. Is too much removal of sebum (oil) no good for you?
A. Sebum (oil) is very important to your skin: it protects the surface of the skin and helps to keep it moist. If there is no sebum, moisture from within the skin escapes, leading to problems such as dryness. After you wash oil and dirt off fully from your face, you should replenish your skin with moisture and oil using lotion or other similar products. That’s an important skincare activity! If sebum disappears from the surface, your skin would try to secrete sebum (oil) in order to protect the epidermis. If you leave your skin in a dry condition all the time, your skin will try to secrete a lot of sebum. This is countereffective, making your skin too oily. That means you shouldn’t wash your face too much.
Q. Do you get sebum (oil) even if it’s cold?
A. It may seem that more sebum (oil) gets secreted during summer. However, there isn’t much difference between winter and summer. Sebum is secreted evenly throughout the year. So, even in winter, you should take good care of your skin so that you don’t invite problems.
Q. Is sweat linked to acne?
A. Sweat on its own isn’t the direct cause of acne. Still, if your skin is dirty when you are more likely to perspire, sweat will mix together with sebum and dirt, which makes your skin more vulnerable to acne. Take care!
Q.Do men have to apply skincare?
A. Men secrete more sebum (oil) than women. If you leave sebum (oil) unattended, it could lead to skin problems like acne or unwanted oily shine on your face. That’s why men should also engage in skincare regularly, focusing on face washing. In a questionnaire survey conducted by Mandom on 10,000 consumers (September 2009), we asked the question, “Is skincare a basic grooming activity?” More than half the people seemed to consider skincare as a basic grooming activity. Do you think this is an unexpected result? People’s awareness of skincare is very high.
Q. What do girls think of boys?
A.You worry about what women think of you, of course. You don’t want them to think that you are dirty…According to our findings, the skin problem that women don’t like in men is “stickiness” first and foremost! Next comes “oily shine” followed by “acne and pimples.” More than 80% of women expressed their distaste of each of these skin problems. That’s a big surprise, isn’t it? When asked about men’s skincare activities, about 96% (wow!) “want men to engage in skincare.” Women are taking a good look at men and want men to be applying proper skincare.
