GATSBY Styling Dance Contest Asian Finals 2010/2011

Malaysia wins the Asian Finals for the 2nd year running - Singapore champions We Want Funk walked away with the Styling Award!

Tokyo, Japan - The level of competition in the 3rd GATSBY Styling Dance Contest Asian Finals was argubly the highest, since the creation of the contest, but the winner was no different from last year-Soloist Jackson Chua once again did Malaysia proud, following the success of Alex Lim and became the number 1 student dancer in Japan, beating hot favorites Japan and Indonesia for the coveted title.
Singapore's representatives, We Want Funk, win the Styling Award, given to the team with the best style and with their unique costume, perhaps inspired by the colors of their home country, and cool hairdo, it wasn't difficult to see why this was so. Besides their style, they also wowed the crowd with their humorous locking act, earning praise from respected judges Charisma Kantaroand Fishboy.
But it wasn't all about the performance for the boys as well, as the trip to Tokyo gave them an opportunity to enjoy a free haircut from one of Japan's most famous salons, ROOTS, shopping in the fashionable Shibuya district, and interaction with dancers from different countries. The contest in itself also provided a platform for the 3 student dancers from Lion City to perform on the Asian stage, an experience they probably won't forget in a while.
All in all, the 3 members of We Want Funk left Japan with valuable experience under their belts, watched their idols perform in the flesh, and made new friends from all over Asia. As team leader Cheng Kai said in his own words: "This is a contest in which the level of competition is very high - I really enjoyed myself throughout the trip and I'm glad we performed well!"

Look out for the next GATSBY Styling Dance Contest coming up in the second half of 2011!
