The best student dancer group in Singapore was crowned on 30 Jan 2010, Saturday at Bugis Junction, after an intense battle between 8 top teams that saw The Basic Fives, made up of Lim Kah Sing, Diane Ng, and Jin Neo, emerge victorious with a scintillating performance. They will now represent Singapore in the GATSBY Styling Dance Contest Asia Finals in Tokyo, Japan on the 27 Feb 2010.

Displaying a locking performance blended with youthful dynamism and excellent choreography, The Basic Fives, the first team on stage, set the tone for the rest of the contenders. The other teams though proved they were no pushovers, with each team displaying their own creativity and dance technique to wow the crowd.

Groovy by Nature, made up of 3 girls from Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Republic Polytechnic, came in second and won the Great GATSBY award, walking home with SGD$1,000, limited edition New Balance sneakers, and GATSBY products. Soul United Dance Crew, an all-girls trio from the National University of Singapore, and Beauty Rock claimed the 2 GATSBY awards respectively. There was also a guest performance from dynamic duo Kenneth and Fong, who electrified the crowd with their pulsating performance.

All the contestants have every reason to feel proud for their excellent performance in the second GATSBY Styling Dance Contest. Though only one team could go on to represent Japan, every single team were winners in their own right with performances that not only they, but also the massive crowd on show, will always remember in their hearts.
The Basic Fives will now compete with 6 other countries in Tokyo, Japan on the 27 Feb 2010 in Tokyo, Japan. Can they go up one more level and become the best in Asia? |
